Well, I've read every series by T.S. Joyce. This was my last one. I'm very glad I didn't read this book first because if I had, I would have never read another book by this author. This book didn't even seem like it was written by T.S. Joyce. All of her other books have been great. A few I've given 3s, but most I've given 4s or 5s. She is a great author. But this book was just plain bad. It was long and boring. The hero was a wuss. The heroine was unbelievable. She had grown up as a maid's daughter who fell in love with and was seduced by the son of the lady of the house. When the lady found out, she took the heroine to a brothel where she became a whore. She was to stay there or else her mother would come to harm. The lady visited her every 2 weeks to make sure she was still there and would walk in on her having sex with men and the heroine would smile at her to show her that she wasn't affected by what the lady had done to her. Really? Her life as a forced prostitute was glossed over as no big deal. Sorry, but I've got to think forced prostitution would leave some serious emotional scars. Then she escapes to be a mail order bride. Why now? What happened to the threat to her mom? Her mom is never mentioned again and yet supposedly they were close. Really? And there was no sex until 92% of the book and the book only lasted til about 94%. Most of her books are fast paced and full of emotion, good character development and good sexy times. This one was not. I doubt I will read the rest of this series. I will wait for the next in the red havoc series to come out. I would highly recommend any of this author's other series, but not this one.Product details

When Kristina answered an ad for a mail order bride for a man in Colorado Springs, she left a life of forced prostitution in Chicago behind. But when Jeremiah recognises her former vocation by her only dress when she arrives, he hands her off to his brother, Luke, who planned to never marry. Luke fights the decision, but soon finds he enjoys being around the little spitfire. Then deadly secrets surface in a way that will forever change them both.
This is one of the few books I have read recently that captured my attention on the first page and didn't let go. Joyce began with laugh out loud humor and moved on through loss, pain, grief, and ultimately joy. Few author's I have read have been able to match her skill in storytelling. I have already purchased book two and am watching for the release of book three. This book is that good.
I absolutely love the Dawson brothers books. I love the way T.S. Joyce writes. She has a delightfully unique take on human behavior that is very apparent in these books. Kristina is my favorite heroine in any romance book I have read to date. She kept me smiling through the entirety of this first book and much of the second. We need more voices like Kristina’s in this dreary world. She has the best attitude and I truly appreciate her strong, loveable character. I like that she is strong without ever being obtuse. I love that your heroes are allowed to be flawed (but passionate) and the women and men seem to each make concessions equally to find their bliss. I have around 1000 romance books on my kindle and T.S. Joyce is one of only a very small handful (no more than 3 or 4 total) of authors that I have listed to be automatically alerted when she releases a new book on . I like her voice in writing (especially with these Dawson books) so much that even though I’m an avid romance reader, I would most likely read any genre she chooses to write.
This has to be one of my all time favorites, historical paranormal romance! Set in the western setting, Kristina was a woman of ill repute, she was a one time whore who had been duped into it for falling for the wrong man. With less then zero chance of any prospects she answers a letter for a mail order bride. But things are unraveling fast, her would be suitor wants nothing to do with her, but stop the press but who should present himself as her runner-up... The brother!! Like Dawson wants the woman, but can she calm the beast within? And the fact she wants to fit is definitely appealing. But Kristina was born to stand out and as time goes on she is greeted by Luke's wolf, if her reaction was any indication what marriage was he will have his hands full trying to calm them both. When Kristina past comes calling it will take everything and everyone to help these star crossed lovers. Can they have their HEA? When the dust settles can these two accept their fate? Outstanding writing written is what I have to say about this book. The characters are tortured and beautiful, tortured because they have loved and lost and still after it all they don't stop. The heroine had me crying, she was bound and determined to have it all, and you easily find yourself relating to her circumstances. Will read the other 2 books in the series, I just hope Ms.Joyce will write more historical paranormal romance! Highly recommend this book if you're looking for something completely different,this is a real gem!
I don’t like Westerns. Don’t generally like anything remotely close to being a Western. Just has never been my cup of tea. And even though I have read over 30 books by this author at the time of this writing, I was still not sure if I’d even like this book. Too many things that could potentially turn me off this, and I REALLY didn’t wan’t to dislike any of her work, since I’ve loved absolutely everything so far.
Needless to say, yet again, I shouldn’t have worried! This was such a great story, with such colorful characters, that you just can’t help but fall into this story so thoroughly. Being longer than her normal stories was a nice change in pace as well, let you get to know the characters and their faults and everything a bit better.
Overall, I definitely recommend this. Lots of action, lots of laughs, and a lot of unexpected turns. Really excited to see what happens in book 2 now!
